It’s World Toilet Day today! “Who gives a crap?” I hear you say. Well these Aussie guys do, in 2012 Simon, Jehan and Danny launched the company “Who Gives a Crap” producing ethically sound loo roll via a crowdfunding campaign.
Their motivation came when they learnt that 2.4 million people across the world do not have access to a toilet. Thats roughly 40% of the population and means that diarrhoea related diseases fill over half of sub Saharan African hospital beds and kill 900 children under 5 every day.
Not only do they donate 50% of their profits to non profit organisations working to improve access to hygiene, water and basic sanitation in developing countries they use environmentally friendly materials to produce their product. We were astonished to read that the majority of toilet paper is made with freshly cut trees. These guys believe that trees are for hugging not wiping. They only use the highly sustainable bamboo and recycled paper to produce a toilet tissue that is soft on the bot.
If that’s not enough to persuade you to change your loo roll purchasing habits check out their festive naughty and nice offering. Our box of 24 “nice” rolls and 24 “naughty” rolls arrived this week and we love the fun designs.
Not only do these guys do good, they have a wicked sense of humour. Its worth a visit to their website for the giggles alone uk.whogivesacrap.org
